God's Story Comes Alive This Summer!
June 7 - July 12

See and hear God's Story in a new way this summer as we spend a special six weeks of worship and Bible study based on the biblical stories contained in our stained glass windows. During our organ restoration, the pews will once again turn to face the windows. We'll take this special opportunity to open our Bibles and look at the ways in which God feeds and nourishes us as shown in the windows. Between the services, at 9:30 am, you won't want to miss the dynamic Bible Study presented by our very own Rev. Dr. Marty Stevens and Rev. Dr. C. Gerald Christianson.
June 28 God Sustaining God's People
July 5 God's Continuing Care
July 12 God Nourishing God's People
See you at worship this summer! Bring your own Bible or use one of our new Pew Bibles which will be blessed Holy Trinity Weekend!

PICTORAL DIRECTORY UPDATE

It is hard to believe that it has been five years since the last pictorial directory project. Good news! Plans are well underway for the St James 2009 Pictorial Directory! By the middle of June, each household will receive a letter with all the information you will need to help us make this project a success. In the meantime, here are the important things we want you to know:
  • Sign-ups for portrait sittings will take place in the narthexes after the 5:30 pm Saturday and 8:15 and 10:45 am Sunday services during the weekends of June 20-21, 27-28, July 4-5, 11-12.
  • Each family or individual that is photographed will receive a free 8 x 10 Olan Mills color portrait and a copy of the directory. You will also have the opportunity to order additional quality portraits at competitive prices.
  • Photographs will be taken July 27-30, August 4-5, and August 24-27. The committee is also asking members to submit any photos of recent church events. Pictures will then be selected from those submitted to create the activity pages in the directory. If a special event is coming up, please consider taking a few pictures so that a variety of activities and events are represented.
If you would like to help with the directory, please contact Carol Widerman at cwiderman@embarqmail.com or 334-0302.

ST. JAMES FILM FESTIVAL
Sunday, July 19, 6:00 p.m.

Come to the St. James Film Festival for the showing of "The Spitfire Grill"(PG-13) on Sunday, July 19th at 6:00 pm in the church gathering area. The Spitfire Grill is a movie about healing and the renewal of a community. Percy Talbot (Alison Elliottt) arrives in the small Maine town of Gilead guarding a grieving wound and looking to heal the sorrows of her life. She helps Hannah, the feisty owner of the Spitfire Grill (Ellen Burstyn), come up with a clever scheme that will assure the owner of a stress-free retirement. The movie combines the complexity of sorrow, hope, loyalty, forgiveness, loneliness, betrayal, and love. At the conclusion of the film, we will enjoy a time for ice cream and discussion. If you cannot attend on July 19th, join us on Sunday, August 9th for the showing of Whale Rider (PG-13). Be watching for additional details.

ORGAN REFURBISHMENT

The St. James pipe organ refurbishment project is on schedule and began on Monday, June 1 when technicians from the Ray Brunner firm disassembled all 1,835 of the individual organ pipes and removed the organ chests and the console, marking the beginning of this project. The completion date is slated for Tuesday, September 1, barring any complications. Financial gifts and pledges are still needed at this point in time, so if you haven't made a gift and/or a pledge, please pick up a brochure in the tract racks in either narthex. Thank you for your support!
